SyncSigns is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.
Our Commitment
As a platform dedicated to making video content accessible for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences, we hold ourselves to the highest accessibility standards. We believe that our own platform should exemplify the inclusivity we help our customers achieve.
Standards & Guidelines
SyncSigns strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities. We have not yet completed a third-party conformance audit; our conformance work is ongoing.
A self-authored Accessibility Conformance Report for the SyncSigns Player (VPAT® 2.5, WCAG 2.1 A and AA), including its known limitations, is available on request from hello@syncsigns.com. It is based on engineering review and automated checks; assistive technology testing is the next step and will update it.
Our accessibility efforts focus on:
- Keyboard accessibility for interactive elements
- Visible focus indicators on focusable elements
- Color contrast that meets WCAG 2.1 AA targets (4.5:1 for text)
- Descriptive alt text on images
- Labels associated with form inputs
- Clearly communicated error messages
- Semantic HTML and ARIA landmarks for page structure
- Full keyboard control of the video player
Assistive Technology Compatibility
We build with assistive technologies in mind, including screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS), browser zoom and text scaling, and keyboard-only navigation. If something doesn't work with your assistive technology, we want to know — see Feedback below.
Ongoing Efforts
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We work to:
- Design and build new features to WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines
- Gather feedback from Deaf and hard-of-hearing users, interpreters, and the wider community
- Monitor and address reported accessibility issues promptly
- Stay current with evolving accessibility standards
Known Limitations
We publish what we know is not yet right so you can plan around it:
- Audio description (WCAG 1.2.5) is available when the content owner uploads a described audio mix for a video; SyncSigns does not produce descriptions itself.
- Live captions are available for live meetings, not yet for standalone live events.
- Uploaded start and end card images use a generic text description; a per-image description field is planned.
- The player has been reviewed by engineers and automated tools but not yet tested with screen readers; some conformance rows are marked as partial for that reason.
- Some third-party integrations may have limitations outside our control. We are working with our partners to address these.
